A Fear of Bugs or Toe Fuzz?

Last night, Ryan and I experienced a side of Lacy we have never seen before in her 20 months of life. While putting her pajamas on before bed, she noticed some fuzz that came from her socks stuck in her toes. Ryan pulled it out, and at that point, the most intense fear took over our little girl and she became hysterical. She began clinging to me and clawing at me to keep her in my arms. She was inconsolable. She didn't want to be put down and was screaming no, no, no. Her heart was racing and she was sweating. She was terrified, but we had no idea of what....toe fuzz?

We have started to see that she has become afraid of certain things lately, but not this intensely. She does not like bugs, specifically spiders. We seem to be in the middle of spider breeding season out here and we have some very large, very ugly spiders, spinning webs outside our house. These are not your every day, run of the mill house spider--these things are huge! They are not the kind you just smoosh either. Needless to say, she does not like to look at them and runs when she sees them. Her response..."fly bug fly"--presumably far, far away from her.

It took us an hour to settle her down after checking to make sure there was no sign of injury or a fever, etc. She is completely fine this morning, so it leads me to believe that she thought that perhaps there was a bug on her foot and that was just too close for her to handle. I felt so helpless watching her battle through her fear of TOE FUZZ.

**Note: Picture above is the spider species that haunts our house. If that is not creepy I don't know what is!**

WOW! If the spiders around your house look like THAT, no wonder Lacy is afraid of them! Poor little girl!
